Les Petits Écoliers - One Day School

Alliance Française Wellington now offers the "Les Petits Écoliers" one-day school programme in the Wellington CBD which started in early 2022.

This programme offers children aged 5 to 12 a space for learning French and discovering French culture through various academic activities. The objective of "Les Petits Ecoliers" is to develop a bilingual education that will allow the participating children to increase their socio-linguistic skills.

Alliance Française Wellington has been a pole for language education in the city for more than a hundred years. Our One Day School programme is a private business run by Alliance Francaise Wellington, which is not accredited (this is not required) or funded by the Ministry of Education. Classes are taught by native French teachers from Alliance Française Wellington.

Les Petits Ecoliers 2026 - General Information

Schedules: One day a week from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday depending on the age and level of French. Contact us for a free assessment.

FAQ

How many students are in a group?

There is a maximum of 12 children per group, per teacher. We also have access to a teacher aid should a group go over the maximum number.

What's the difference between Les Petits Ecoliers and our regular French classes for kids?

This programme allows for in-depth study and practice of the French language in varied contexts and with a range of materials: geography, art, history, science, etc. We adapt our teaching method to a first or second language perspective, depending on the group, to maximise the sense of immersion.

On the other hand, our once-a-week classes for non-native speakers are very good to expose a child to French and to give them a basic grasp of the language.

How does my child get out of regular school for one day a week?

We can provide supporting documents explaining the programme and its benefits for you to take to the Principal of your child's school. Parents must seek permission from the school for their children to attend the One Day School programme - their absence from school to attend this programme is permitted by Section 52 of the Education and Training Act 2020, which allows New Zealand school students to have time away from school to attend alternative education with the permission from their school.
